Jamaica is the largest English-speaking island in the Caribbean populated by over 2 million people. One of the Jamaica’s greatest allures is its idyllic tropical weather. The rainy season in Jamaica extends from May to November, with peaks in May, June, October and November. Trade winds and sea breezes offer some relief during the day, but for comfortable sleeping, air conditioning becomes more important. Negril Beach, as compared to other areas on the North Coast, is generally more sheltered. Scuba and snorkel activities are not often disrupted by strong winds. Generally the breezes blow onshore by day and offshore by night. Often, you can experience strong, gusty winds in Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Portland, while in Negril Jamaica, the weather remains relatively calm.

The hurricane season, in the Caribbean and United States, officially stretches from late June through late November with most of the storm activity in the Caribbean from mid-August through October. Jamaica is located in the Caribbean 'hurricane belt' and; even though the weather in Jamaica is susceptible to hurricanes and tropical storms during this time, the chances of a hurricane beating up your vacation spot is very small. Jamaica rarely experiences hurricanes but a strong storm, during hurricane season, can disrupt the weather for miles around with rain and wind. For the months of September and October you will see substantial amount of rainfalls as this is the time when it peaks for hurricanes.
